Knowing God Through Rest

The Danger of Unbelief

In Hebrews 3:7-10 we read, “Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in t he desert…where your fathers tested and tried Me, though they had seem what I did.”

Then in verses 17, 18, “And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with them that sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter His rest if not to those who disobeyed? We see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief….So I declared on oath my anger. ‘They shall never enter My rest.'”

We see they could NOT enter in to his rest because of unbelief. This is, according to Pastor Jim Borchert, “the only REAL sin.”

Because of unbelief, the children of Israel were not allowed to enter into the promise land — which was their “rest” from their forty years of weary travel. Though God had miraculously led them into this journey, they tried to finish it “in the flesh.” They forgot the simple truth, that what God starts, He will finish.

It is exactly the same with us today. And particularly when it comes to knowing His will for our lives, the truth still holds: What He began in the Spirit, He will finish!
